The Prevention Phase

Preparing for a Sober Life

At Misión Zoe, we understand that recovering from addiction doesn't end when treatment at our facilities is completed. The real challenge begins when patients return to their everyday lives, facing the same circumstances that may have contributed to their addiction.

This is why the Prevention Phase is a vital part of our treatment program, as it includes the transition to the Halfway House, helping patients stay on the path to a life free from addiction.

By the time patients reach this stage, all efforts are focused on relapse prevention, building a strong support network, and developing a life plan that supports sustained recovery. Patients move to the Halfway House, a transitional environment that provides a safe and controlled space for them to begin reintegrating into society.

Key Components

Continued Psychological Therapy

Although intensive treatment is behind them, psychological therapy remains an essential part of the Prevention Phase. Patients continue to participate in regular therapy sessions, focusing on strengthening the skills acquired during the previous phases and addressing any challenges that may arise as they begin to resume their normal lives.

Addiction Counseling

Addiction counseling continues during this phase, with a particular focus on relapse prevention. Counselors work with patients to identify high-risk situations and develop effective strategies to manage them. Additionally, patients learn to recognize the early warning signs of a potential relapse and take preventive measures before it happens.

Halfway House: A Crucial Intermediate Step

The Halfway House is a transitional environment that allows patients to practice what they’ve learned in a more realistic, yet still protected, setting. Here, the "door gradually opens," giving them the opportunity to slowly face the outside world while still receiving support. During their stay, patients can attend self-help groups, visit their families, work, and participate in recreational activities such as going to the movies or the gym. This intermediate space is crucial for patients to gain confidence and security in their ability to remain sober in everyday life.

Relapse Prevention

Relapse prevention is one of the main goals of this phase. Through therapy and counseling, patients learn to identify and manage triggers that could lead them back to substance use. Additionally, they are taught to use healthy coping techniques and to rely on their support network in moments of weakness.

Support Network

Building and maintaining a strong support network is emphasized, including relationships with family, friends, and recovery peers, as well as participation in support groups such as 12-step programs. The goal is to provide the encouragement and accountability patients need to stay on the right path.

Life Plan

Developing a life plan is another crucial component in this phase. This plan includes short and long-term goals, strategies for maintaining sobriety, and concrete steps to face future challenges. By working on this plan, patients prepare for an independent and productive life without the need to resort to addictive substances.

If you or a loved one is in the recovery process, Misión Zoe is here to guide you every step of the way, helping you build a full and addiction-free life.
